http://tiny.cc/67trvzThis is my heartfelt petition to the "Forward SG" platform.1 Change the present practices firstIn order to move Singapore forward, we must be first willing to take a good honest look at the realities and practices in the present, especially regarding the state of those with Disabilities in the Work Force here. These companies are trying to "put one's money where one's mouth is." and this is vital, especially when Singapore is at a crossroads of sorts, being a first world country in many respects but still a work in progress when it comes to the integration of those who do not fit well into the old system 2 APPEARANCE versus SUBSTANCE of success. The question, whether we want to admit it or not is "are we hiring those with Special Needs to LOOK GOOD, or with the intent of long term integration?" The former can be attained through statistical reports, but the latter requires leadership and personnel who are on the same page in vision and values. There has been increasing awareness that success, though tied invariably to quantifiable outcomes, is not the reflection of holistic success that is inclusive, qualitative and wholesome.3 Structures present but huge discrepancies in practice It was thanks mostly to the efforts of Ms Denise Phua Lay Peng, who was the forerunner of institutionalising entities and movements that intentionally catered to a section of the populace that could be integrated meaningfully and productively in our community, the awareness of inclusivity, especially for those with physical, learning and behavioural disabilities, became more acceptable and a buzzword most would rally behind due to its inherently noble nature. But there is a CHASM between what is being done in schools and the Working World, sadly. That leaves many of our youths, who have enjoyed more accommodations in schools so that their strengths could be nurtured on a more level playing field, suddenly left to fend for themselves in a Working World that may not practice such values. 4 Do we belong now? That also causes many who are ALREADY in the workforce, been diagnosed with SEN much later as they grew up during a time with little awareness, who have worked hard to get where they are and yet, have faced repeated rejection and trauma much of their schooling and work lives, in a state of perpetual LIMBO. If Singapore is to truly MOVE FORWARD in the next chapter of our Nation's history, aka FORWARD SINGAPORE (https://lnkd.in/gX4md8BX), where we seek to refresh our social compact and leave no one behind, isn't it time to move just beyond ideation to actually doing something for the future of our nation; especially if the problems are staring us in the face all this time?We have much to contribute, give and add value to in this place we choose to call home. The question is, "Are we even welcome or have a place here presently and in the future"?

Within the framework of our Erasmus+ project include³, OZARA Project Management Office (Slovenia) organized 2 Focus groups on the topic of "inclusion in the 1st labour market". Both Focus Groups took place in June 2023. The findings of the conversations offered us great insights into understanding how to create the future project results especially to understand the mutual and inclusive learning process between Carrer guidance counsellors and Persons with disabilities to work on inclusive and person centered paths toward labour market integration. #include #inclusion #workingtogether #groupwork

This article about why Singapore youths are less happier than their elders makes a great read and reflection. It ends with a proposition for our youths to foster greater meaning in their lives - by engaging in activities that align to their values and being in service of something bigger than themselves. This is what Happiness Initiative’s Well-Being Circles is about. If you have friends that may benefit from this, kindly share as registration is closing soon: www.wellbeingcircles.sg#wellbeing #wellbeingcircles #youth #happiness

🌱 Embracing Sustainable Inclusive Growth! 🤝The lack of inclusivity drives some of the biggest problems in The Philippines. Many Filipinos are challenged with improving their quality of life as they struggle to access quality food, shelter, education, employment, and capital. Furthermore, Filipino communities may struggle to implement the best solutions produced from diverse perspectives and healthy debate as there are barriers along demographics such as gender, race, sexual orientation or socio-economic background. We believe that true progress can only come from empowering EVERYONE. 🌟 Sustainable Inclusive Growth means fostering an environment where no one is left behind. 🌏💚 To achieve this, YLIP aims to mobilize teams of students and NGOs drive sustainable inclusive growth for The Philippines - one initiative at a time. 🌳🌲Want to be part of this change? Join YLIP to develop your skills and take part in creating a more inclusive Philippines. Join any of the upcoming info sessions (note that all sessions are ONLINE)!📍July 20 - https://lnkd.in/gFSvZfmE📍July 26 - https://lnkd.in/gXVaFF7WPlease note that individuals who are interested are required to join at least one information session to proceed with their application, discuss the recruitment process and next steps.#YLIP #EmpoweringYoungLeaders #IdeasIntoImpact

See you at the SIETAR Southeast Asia Conference 2024 next week, where I will be presenting The Diversity Dialogues, our signature inclusion project by Dramatic Difference that seeks to ignite dialogue and action to build inclusive workplace culture. On the stage with me will be Edward Choy and Mina Kaye who will be performing two monologues derived from real-life interviews that highlight the lived experience of professionals living diverse lives."We'll Make an Exception"The path to parenthood is not a simple or linear affair for many couples. Surrogacy and adoption are not new concepts by any means, but many organisations fall short of creating inclusive policies and attitudes for parents going through these experiences. What is standing in the way?"Ask Me!"The job at home and the job in the office can be both equally demanding of time and energy, each one perhaps offering respite from the other. When you're juggling a career and complex caring responsibilities at home, what toll does this take and how do we make it possible?Further details below 👇#DiversityDialogues #InclusiveLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment

Why do I love doing what I do?Because it gives me the opportunity to interact with and influence the young(er) minds!Yesterday was one such day!I was discussing inclusion with students from Sri Lanka (on my left) and Viet Nam (on my right) - and we were figuring out how to make our urban destinations more welcoming for everyone. You see, over the years I have travelled - I have noticed several things that have made me feel inclusive as a brown female. Additionally, I also tend to notice other things at the destination which appeals to the inclusion researcher in me.For example, when I was travelling through phu*ket last year, I couldn't help but notice how sidewalks had ramps all over the city. Now, I don't use ramps, but seeing them as a part of the city made me feel happy because it signals how the city is welcoming to people who use wheelchairs or assistive devices.Similarly, in Adelaide, Australia.Apart from multiple sightings of gender-neutral toilets, the city was full of murals of people of colour (I was so happy that I made an Instagram reel about it!)!!And not only able-bodied ones, but the murals also showed people in wheelchairs and using other aids (hearing and mobility). The brown traveller in me danced in joy seeing herself represented in the city like that. I mentioned to my colleague Anita Manfreda during that visit that if I ever relocated to Australia, Adelaide would be my first choice! You see, people make opinions and perceptions about a destination based on what they see first and then on what they experience. If what people see is not inclusive, it takes significant efforts for the destination to make the experience inclusive (nerdy researchers, remember the association between positive perception and positive experience?).Now, it is not to say that only visuals are needed but to highlight the importance of what you show and what you do, should match because first impressions matter. And in this case, a tad bit too much!#diversiTea

Badrie, what are your thoughts about a robust youth development programme that’s impact-driven, results-focused, and built around social responsibility skills and volunteerism?" asked Raja Azura Raja Mahayuddin and 'Aliyah Karen a couple of months back, sparking a meaningful dialogue this morning with Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) team led by CEO Thomas Mathew . The discussions underscored the vital role of volunteerism, guiding us towards the creation of a robust youth development programme that not only prioritises impact-driven and results-focused methodologies but also creates ethical leaders and profoundly influences societal well-being.The opportunity to integrate essential skills, alongside embedding the principles of Rukun Negara and the SDGs, presents an exhilarating proposition. Its significance is further amplified by the cohesive strategy that aligns this programme with TalentCorp's broader initiatives, inviting increased participation from other stakeholders, industry partners, and educational institutions. All good wishes for a successful collaboration. #nurturingtalents #youthempowerment #SDGs #Volunteerism #socialresponsibility AKRAB Resources Nazrul Aziz Suanie Tew
