The Fast and Furious series is one of the most popular movie franchises in the world. Since it began in 2001, the movies have been seen by millions, grossed billions and helped propel the likes of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and the late Paul Walker further into superstardom.

So far, there have been 10 movies in the regular series, complemented by the spinoff movie Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, two short films and an animated TV series on Netflix. The 11th and rumored-to-be final film in the franchise, is expected to be released in 2025.

But with so many Fast and Furious movies out there now, what’s the best way to watch them? The series release order does not follow the story’s chronology — 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is set later than the next three movies that were released. Plus, one character in Tokyo Drift appears to die at the end of the movie, but he returns in several films released after 2006 (which are set earlier in time).

From the movie that started it all to the most recent release, here’s how to watch the Fast and Furious movies in chronological order.

The movie that started it all, The Fast and the Furious, was inspired by a 1998 Vibe article about illegal street racing in New York City. It was released in the United States in June 2001 and starred Walker as Brian O’Conner, an undercover Los Angeles police officer tasked with going undercover to investigate a heist crew — including Diesel's character, street racer Dominic "Dom" Toretto — that has hijacked a vehicle carrying electronic goods.

The movie — which also introduces Rodriguez's street racer and mechanic character, Letty Ortiz and Dom's sister Mia Toretto, played by Jordana Brewster — grossed $208.1 million according to Deadline.
